The Cape and the Creative Forest

Image
I realised my blog posts are so far introducing different aspects of myself.  First we had my interest in the sensory systems, followed by music. Well today I wanted to share my arts practice. Whenever people ask me 'Oh so what kind of art do you do?' I want to reply 'All of it!' The truth is, I love learning new skills and over the years I have tried such a wide breadth of things, that it all intermingles in my brain. For the longest time when I was younger, I thought I had to find one style and do only that forever. But now I truly embrace the journey of a multidisciplinary artist. You never know where a project will take you. What ideas your brain will connect. It’s one of the reasons why I've been drawn to Joanna Grace's work around sensory stories and sensory props, because it is another avenue through which my creative skill set can take flight. In my studio at the moment is a cape project that I am really excited about! I’ve been inspired to make capes s...

My Foray into Ukuleles

Image
Since I can remember, I have always sung and growing up I learned a few different instruments. I played the piano, flute and dabbled with the ocarina. As my art practice became more prevalent in my adult life, I found music falling by the wayside. I would refer to myself as a musician, but a rusty one. Well the ukulele has been the WD40, to my rusty musicianship! I never thought I’d be a string player. I attempted to teach myself guitar once as a child, but back then we didn’t have YouTube. I just had a how to book and my own sheer will power. Which didn’t last long as the guitar I’d borrowed, had three out of the six strings being metal. Google informs me this is normal, but let me tell you, as a child those hurt! I recall working out the riff to a Puddle of a Mudd song by ear and called it there. My beautiful Sakura Flight travel concert ukulele. A couple of years ago, when I started to work towards sharing workshops in the community, I was inspired by the late Becky Dixon, who offer...

A Sensory Walk

Image
I’ll be honest I’ve sat here for about 20 minutes procrastinating on how or what to write for my second blog post. There is so much I could share about the sensory systems. So I decided I’d go for a sensory walk and post about that. What better way to talk about the senses than to actually embody them first. It is often said that nature is the best sensory room. I contemplated walking to the woods, but as I had errands to run, I decided to see what my route to the shops had to offer. This also felt something more achievable for anyone else too. So, come and join me on my little adventure, as I introduce you to the senses! The first five senses are what I’ve dubbed the ‘Famous Five’ and it still baffles me even to this day, that these senses were first defined by Aristotle in his book ‘De Anima’/‘On The Soul’ in 350BC. Where he in fact stated “...Why there are no more than the five senses. One might be convinced that there is no other sense apart from the five (namely, sight, hearing, s...

Side Effects of the Sensory Lexiconary 2026

Why hello there! Welcome to my first blog post! My name is Aimee and I am the founder of Sensory Art Bubble. A small business looking to share workshops in the community. If stories, music, creativity and whimsy are your jam, then you are in the right place! Come on in. So many sensory delights! Since starting Sensory Art Bubble, it has been suggested to me to start a blog. The problem was, I didn’t know what to share, where to start, and then life annoyingly got in the way. I lost momentum and when I came back, I sat for some time thinking to myself ‘What was I doing again?’ Then something serendipitous happened as I began to start slowly working through things. I knew my first port of call in creating a workshop would be the content and I knew I wanted to share sensory stories as part of it. If you have any toes dipped in the sensory realm, this next name will come as no surprise, as I sat down one Monday morning in June, decided to be brave and reached out to Dr Joanna Grace via e-m...
